Two days after reaching UEFA Champions League qualifying for the first time, Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed a new four-year contract with Wales left-back Gareth Bale.
The deal ties the 20-year-old to the north London club until 2014. Bale joined Tottenham from Southampton FC in 2007 and although he struggled to make an impact in his first two seasons, he has come to the fore this term, making 22 league appearances – many in an advanced left-midfield role. In total, he has played 75 games for the White Hart Lane side, scoring five goals.
Capped 24 times by Wales, Bale struck winning goals against Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC last month to bolster his team's bid for a maiden UEFA Champions League berth. That ambition was realised on Wednesday when Tottenham won 1-0 at closest rivals Manchester City FC to guarantee Harry Redknapp's side at least fourth place in England's Premier League.
