Niinistö takes reins at Finnish FA

Sauli Niinistö has been elected as the new president of the Football Association of Finland, taking over from Pekka Hämäläinen who steps down after 12 successful years in charge.

Election
He takes over from Pekka Hämäläinen, who is stepping down after 12 successful years in charge. The election took place at the association's assembly.

Speaker
Niinistö has been a prominent figure in Finnish political life for many years, and serves currently as the speaker of the country's parliament. "Everything looks great in Finnish football at the moment and there is good ground to build on," said Hämäläinen.

'Ready'
"I want to thank Pekka Hämäläinen," said Niinistö in tribute to the outgoing president. "We have shared many thoughts recently, and I am ready to take on the work to be done in Finnish football."
