Olympique de Marseille have strengthened their team by signing Cyril Chapuis from Stade Rennais FC.
The 22-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a five-year contract. "I am from Lyon, so OL [Olympique Lyonnais] are the club of my heart," he said. "But I was, in my youth, a fervent supporter of OM [Marseille]. It's a great club."
Before the move for an undisclosed fee, many clubs in Le Championnat had coveted Chapuis who is earmarked as a future international. He scored ten goals in 32 games for Rennes last season and has hit three in 12 matches so far this campaign.
Much to do
With France's footballers returning from the winter break on Saturday, both clubs find themselves with much to do to make the season a success. Marseille lie in ninth place while Rennes are 14th.
Meanwhile Rennes midfield player Olivier Echouafni faces an anxious wait after it was revealed he has suffered suspected knee ligament damage. He was hurt during his team’s match against AS Monaco on 22 December and the extent of the damage should be known later this week.
