András Sarlós has been appointed coach of Hungarian First Division side Újpesti TE until the end of the season, replacing András Szabó.
The 49-year-old former national youth team coach will take charge of Újpest for the final six rounds of the domestic campaign after Szabó stepped down at the weekend claiming "the expectations are too high from the directors and the public".
An ex-Újpest player, Sarlós had been at the helm of Újpest's feeder club, Fót, in the Hungarian second division, and was delighted to accept club president Ferenc Lukács's offer of a first job in the top flight.
'A great honour'
"It is a great but - in terms of time - short task for me," said Sarlós. "This is the first time that I will be in charge of an NB. I team, and it is a great honour. I have faith in the players for these six games." Újpest are currently fourth in the championship play-offs, 15 points behind leaders and Budapest rivals Ferencvárosi TC.
