Antonio Di Natale brought up a century of top-flight goals for Udinese Calcio as the Zebrette climbed to fourth by defeating UC Sampdoria 2-0.
Di Natale, who was top scorer in Serie A with 29 goals last season, doubled Udinese's lead five minutes before half-time when he neatly finished off Alexis Sánchez's defence-splitting pass. The roles had been reversed for the opener, Sánchez heading in an inswinging free-kick from Di Natale on 18 minutes.
Sampdoria's fourth defeat in five league games − which leaves the Blucerchiati in 13th, six points above the relegation zone − is in contrast to the form of Udinese, who are unbeaten in eight in all competitions.
Alessandro Matri, meanwhile, left Cagliari Calcio for Juventus on loan this week and immediately put one over his old team-mates by beating Michael Agazzi at his near post midway through the first half.
Though Robert Acquafresca (51) equalised, Matri (75) volleyed in Giorgio Chiellini's chip to the far post and substitute Luca Toni made the points safe late on. The Bianconeri's first win in four league fixtures lifts them one place to seventh.
