Juventus sustain title pressure with Inter success

Juventus climbed back within four points of the Serie A summit courtesy of a 2-0 win against faltering FC Internazionale Milano, after third-placed S.S. Lazio had beaten Cagliari Calcio 1-0.

Juventus hauled themselves back within four points of Serie A leaders AC Milan thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Derby d'Italia rivals FC Internazionale Milano, on a day when third-placed S.S. Lazio downed Cagliari Calcio 1-0.

With Milan having edged AS Roma 2-1 on Saturday, Juve needed a win to keep up their title challenge, and they made their breakthrough via the head of Martín Cáceres 12 minutes into the second half. Substitute Alessandro Del Piero then added the second and his first league goal this season, as Inter suffered their sixth Serie A loss in ten outings.

Eight points behind Juventus, Lazio were frustrated for long periods against Cagliari until Mobido Diakité shattered their resistance with two minutes remaining. The result moved Edoardo Reja's side three points ahead of closest challengers SSC Napoli and Udinese Calcio, with Napoli squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Calcio Catania

Genoa CFC left it late to salvage a point after Rodrigo Palacio's 15th league goal of the campaign earned them a 2-2 draw with ACF Fiorentina, while AC Cesena versus Parma FC concluded with the same scoreline.

Earlier, Atalanta BC leapfrogged Bologna FC into ninth with a comfortable 2-0 win, whereas AS Chievo Verona have now gone four Serie A games without a victory after drawing 1-1 with AC Siena. Lastly, Novara Calcio played out a goalless draw with fellow relegation candidates US Lecce.
