Dutch side SC Heerenveen hope to have unearthed another Brazilian gem after signing 19-year-old striker Pedro Beda from CR Flamengo for an undisclosed fee.
Pedro Beda has signed a three-year contract with Heerenveen, who finished fifth in the Eredeivisie this season and earned a place in the first round of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup via the play-offs. Described as a fast, versatile striker with good aerial ability, the teenager has been signed as a long-term replacement for giant striker Gerald Sibon, 34.
Pedro Beda is the third Brazilian to arrive at Heerenveen in the last two years and would do well to emulate his fellow countrymen Paulo Henrique and Afonso Alves, who is now a Premier League regular at Middlesbrough FC. "Alves opened up the South American market for us," said club general manager Yme Kuiper. "Clubs, players and agents know Heerenveen now. They have even started coming to us."
