A Lorenzo Amoruso penalty gave Rangers FC a 1-0 win at Dundee United FC on Sunday and closed the gap on Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic FC to 13 points.
Italian Amoruso converted from the spot after 67 minutes following a foul by United's Craig Easton on Russell Latapy. Paul Gallacher, the United goalkeeper, kept his side in the contest with some good saves, denying Peter Lovenkrands three times and also Amoruso from a first-half free-kick. United's best chance was their first one, in the second minute, when David Winters headed a Jim Lauchlan free kick into Stefan Klos's arms.
United stay eighth
Rangers, who lost Michael Mols in the first period due to a recurrence of his knee problem, now have 70 points with Celtic on 83 points. Dundee United stay in eighth place in the 12-team league.
