Season review: Turkey

Fenerbahçe SK wrested back the title from Galatasaray AŞ in a season when Turkey's Caner Erkin starred at full-back and Ozan Tufan earned his spurs.

Fenerbahçe SK wrested back the title from arch-rivals Galatasaray AŞ, who found consolation in the Turkish Cup. Cimbom also impressed in the UEFA Champions League under the recently departed Roberto Mancini, negotiating a tricky section containing Real Madrid CF and Juventus before succumbing to Chelsea FC in the round of 16.

Champions: Fenerbahçe SK
The Yellow Canaries went top of the Süper Lig in September and never looked back, clinching their 19th top-flight crown by finishing nine points clear of closest pursuers Galatasaray. Under the guidance of wily coach Ersun Yanal, Fenerbahçe garnered a reputation for playing determined, belief-imbued football with Caner Erkin, Mehmet Topal and Moussa Sow in particular epitomising their spirit.

Cup final: Galatasaray AŞ 1-0 Eskişehirspor
Man of the match Wesley Sneijder scored the winner in the 70th minute to ensure a record 15th Turkish Cup triumph and first in eight years for Cimbom. Chances were at a premium in a cagey contest but when Eskişehirspor failed to clear a right-wing cross by Sabri Sarıoğlu, the Dutch international pounced after Selçuk İnan's shot had been kept out.

Player of the Year: Caner Erkin (Fenerbahçe SK)
The left-back became a pillar of consistency, contributing 11 assists and three league goals. His movement off the ball, rapid bursts forward and delivery from corners made the 25-year-old Turkish international an invaluable member of the side.

One to watch: Ozan Tufan (Bursaspor)
A product of the club's academy, Ozan learned his trade as a Turkish Under-19 international, showcasing an ability to operate in central defence or midfield. Despite featuring in just eight league fixtures, the defender earned full international honours in May, producing three disciplined performances as part of a United States tour.

Surprise package: Kayseri Erciyesspor
They spent 23 matchweeks entrenched in the bottom three, yet Hikmet Karaman's men narrowly beat the drop courtesy of vital wins against fellow strugglers Elazığspor and Gaziantepspor. Key to their turnaround was the arrival of Edinho on loan from SC Braga in January, the Portuguese striker weighing in with 11 league strikes.

Leading scorer: Aatif Chahechouhe, Sivasspor (17)

Relegated: Elazığspor, Antalyaspor, Kayserispor

Promoted: İstanbul BB SK, Balıkesirspor, Mersin İdman Yurdu

Number: 13
Of the 60 top-flight goals Sivasspor struck, right-back Cicinho assisted 13 of them.

"We will win the title. The rest can fight it out for the other places."
Fenerbahçe boss Yanal's bold statement after their 2-0 win over Galatasaray last November.
