De La Peña back at Espanyol

Iván De La Peña has signed for RCD Espanyol until the end of the season, having been a free agent since leaving the club in the summer.

Summer departure
The 27-year-old midfield player was unable to agree terms for a contract with the Primera División side earlier this year. However, with Espanyol bottom of the Spanish top flight, De La Peña, who came close to joining a number of other clubs following his departure, was persuaded to return. Espanyol last week dismissed coach Javier Clemente and replaced him with Luis Fernandez.

Change in fortunes
De La Peña is best known for his three-year spell with FC Barcelona, but his career seemed to stall following a move to S.S. Lazio in 1998. After just 15 games for the Italian club he was loaned to Olympique de Marseille before transferring to Espanyol last season.
