France round-up: Lyon crash

Montpellier Hérault SC beat Olympique Lyonnais 3-0 in Le Championnat on Wednesday. There was also a valuable win for FC Nantes Atlantique.

Montpellier Hérault SC beat high-flying Olympique Lyonnais 3-0 on Wednesday night's match in Le Championnat. Abdoulaye Cisse nodded in an Olivier Sorlin cross in the second minute to open the scoring for Montpellier. Toifilou Maoulida scored early in the second half before substitute Habib Bamogo made it three in the 68th minute on the counter-attack.

Pressure eased
Elsewhere, FC Nantes Atlantique eased the pressure on coach Raynald Denoueix as they won for just the third time in 16 league matches so far this season, beating FC Lorient 2-1. Lorient dominated early on and scored first in the 21st minute thanks to Tchiressoua Guel. Nantes fought back desperately and levelled the scoring in the 73rd minute with a superb Pierre-Yves André lob before snatching a crucial win thanks to Tahiti's Marama Vahirua ten minutes from the final whistle.

Lens five clear
RC Lens are five points clear at the top of the table after thrashing SC Bastia 7-0. An own goal by Bastia goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau set Lens on the way and six different players ended up on the scoresheet.

Loko on form
Former French international Patrice Loko confirmed his
return to form by scoring for ES Troyes Aube Champagne  in the 12th minute after a scramble in CS Sedan-Ardennes's penalty box. Phillipe Celdran nodded home from close range to level the
scoring for Sedan in the 35th minute.

Cisse wins the day
FC Sochaux-Montbéliard  fell 2-1 at home to AJ Auxerre. A splendid Yann Lachuer free kick put Auxerre in the lead in
the seventh minute but Sochaux fought back and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when Mickael Pagis equalised. However Djibrill Cisse stole victory seven minutes from the final whistle with his tenth goal of the season.

Pauleta strikes
A double strike from Pedro Pauleta gave FC Girondins de Bordeaux a 2-0 win against En Avant Guingamp. Pauleta broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when he lobbed Guingamp reserve goalkeeper Gérard Gnanhouan. The Portuguese striker nearly made it two seconds before the break at the end of a solo raid but his shot hit the bar.He was more successful one minute into injury time when he sealed victory from close range.

Other games
Elsewhere, struggling AS Monaco FC fought out a 2-2 draw with Lille OSc. German internatiomnal Oliver BIerhoff was among the scorers. The noight's other game, between Stade Rennais FC and FC Metz ended goalless.
