Tinga targets Sporting success

Brazilian forward Tinga has joined Sporting Clube de Portugal from Grêmio FPA on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Brazilian international midfielder Tinga has joined Sporting Clube de Portugal from Grêmio FPA in his homeland.

New start
The 26-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year contract after a Brazilian court ruled he was free to leave Grêmio following a dispute over wages. Until now, Tinga has played all of his career in Brazil except for a brief spell in Japan with Kawasaki Frontale.

Domestic ambitions
Tinga, whose full name is Paulo César Fonseca do Nascimento, said: "I promise to work hard with my team-mates, as we try to finish in first place. I am very happy to be here." Sporting may have been eliminated from the UEFA Cup and Portuguese Cup but they are second in the league, trailing leaders FC Porto by five points after 18 games.
