Sultana takes on new role

Malta's record league goalscorer Stefan Sultana has been appointed player-coach of Hamrun Spartans FC.

The Maltese league's all-time record goalscorer Stefan Sultana has been installed as player-coach of Hamrun Spartans FC.

Dobrev departure
Sultana takes over from Guentcho Dobrev who left the club by mutual agreement following a defeat in a crucial 'relegation pool' match against Msida St. Joseph FC two weeks ago. Club president Antoine Attard confirmed Sultana's appointment but his debut as player-coach was a losing one as Hamrun went down 2-1 to Balzan Youths FC on Sunday.

Looking doomed
Keith Fabri's 49th-minute goal for Hamrun was not enough to avoid a 16th defeat of the season which leaves them rooted at the bottom of the table with just two points. Sultana, a Hamrun loyalist, has scored a record 181 goals in the Maltese Premier League.
