KRC Genk coach Sef Vergoossen and assistant coach Jos Daerden have stood down with immediate effect.

'Something had to be done'
Vergoossen has left his post after being told by Genk chairman Jos Vaessen yesterday that his rolling contract would not be extended beyond the end of the season. "Vergoossen has become a friend for life, but firing him was not an emotional decision," Vaessen said. "Genk have been slipping and something had to be done. I could not carry on postponing a decision."

Caretaker coaches
Pierre Denier and Ronny van Geneugden, the club's second assistant coach and youth-team coach, will take charge for the last six games of the season. Genk lie sixth in the first division.
