Australian international Brett Emerton put the Rotterdam side on their way with a goal in the first minute and Pierre van Hooijdonk made it two from the penalty spot three minutes later. Emerton and Van Hooijdonk both struck again after the break, on 51 and 64 minutes respectively, before Jon Dahl Tomasson sealed the win on 69 minutes.
Ajax come from behind
Feyenoord are three points behind Ajax with a game in hand. Ajax came from behind to win 3-1 at Willem II after falling behind to Jatto Ceesay's 43rd-minute goal. An own goal from Raymond Victoria on 59 minutes brought Ajax back on to level terms before two goals in the dying minutes from Nikos Machlas and Pius Ikedia secured the win.
Penders sent off
FC Groningen struck three second-half goals without reply to defeat ten-man NAC Breda. The 52nd-minute dismissal of Rob Penders for a foul on Martin Drent was the cue for Groningen to take control. Ali Boussaboun converted the subsequent spot-kick and goals from Hugo and Arjen Robben followed. FC Utrecht and SC Heerenveen played out a goalless draw.
