FC Rapid Bucuresti have appointed Viorel Hizo - an old face - as their new coach less than 24 hours after Dan Petrescu stepped down.
'He knows the club well'
Hizo today signed a contract until the end of the season with the option of a one-year extension. "He was the only experienced coach currently unemployed," said Rapid president Ioan Becali. "More than that, he has been Rapid's coach several times before and knows the club and the team very well."
The 57-year-old - whose most recent coaching role at FC Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt ended one month ago - will begin his fourth spell at Rapid tomorrow. He was in charge twice between 1993 and 1996 and again from 2001-02. In 1994/95 he took Rapid to the third round of the UEFA Cup - the furthest they have ever gone in European competition.
