R. Standard de Liège have re-signed Belgian international Régis Genaux on a four-and-a-half-year contract from Udinese Calcio.
Back in Belgium
The 28-year-old Genaux, who has earned 22 caps for Belgium made a name for himself at Standard before signing with English FA Premiership side Coventry City FC in 1996. His time in England was hampered by muscular injuries and in January 1997, Genaux signed for Udinese. However, Genaux's spell in Italy was also troubled by injury, this time knee problems, and he will hope to get his career back on track with Standard.
Genaux is the club's second prestigious signing within a week. Croatian international Robert Spehar completed a deal to join Standard until the end of the season last Wednesday evening after a spell with Galatasaray SK.
The former Club Brugge KV striker is glad to be back in Belgium and is particularly keen to be in action for Standard's next game against his old club. "The match against Brugge will be a very special one for me," Spehar said. "When I think about Belgium, it always brings back nothing but good memories."
