Ten-man Newcastle United FC lost Craig Bellamy to a torn hamstring but gained a point at Aston Villa FC.
Newcastle United FC's UEFA Cup hopes were dented on Sunday when striker Craig Bellamy pulled up with a hamstring injury midway through their Premiership encounter against Aston Villa FC in Birmingham.
Bellamy tore down the right wing 49 minutes into the goalless draw but suddenly collapsed in pain clutching his hamstring and seems a serious doubt for the first leg of Newcastle's semi-final against Olympique de Marseille on Thursday. The injury could even force the Welsh international out for the remainder of the Premiership season, with the race for the fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualification berth set to go down to the wire.
The point picked up at Villa Park, which manager Sir Bobby Robson may well have settled for after seeing defender Andy O'Brien sent off for a professional foul on Darius Vassell after just nine minutes, moved Newcastle level with Liverpool FC on 50 points, with Villa sixth on 49.
