Belarussian international goalkeeper Vasily Khomutovsky has signed a one-year deal with Russian club FC Volgar-Gazprom Astrakhan.
Unhappy Dinamo spell
Khomutovsky has ended an unhappy spell at Dinamo Moscow after completing just nine months of a three-year deal. He joined the Premier-Liga club last June, but immediately hit a trough in form. Khomutovsky conceded 18 goals in eight matches before being transfer listed at the end of the 2001 season.
Consistent for Belarus
Despite poor performances for Dinamo, Khomutovsky has been in good form for his country. Replacing banned goalkeeper Gennady Tumilovich, Khomutovsky was the man of the match in Belarus’s 2-0 defeat by Ukraine, denying Andriy Shevchenko and co on numerous occasions.
Transfers called off
Meanwhile, two Belarussian transfers which had already been confirmed by the clubs involved have now been called off. Artur Matveichik's move to FC Sokol Saratov in Russia has fallen through and Alexey Suchkov's switch to FC Krylya Sovetov Samara was prohibited as the player was called up for military service.
