KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Jules Ottenstadion in the Jupiler League on Sunday.
Baseggio on target
Walter Baseggio sent Anderlecht into the break with a 1-0 lead, after he headed home Besnik Hasi's cross in the 43rd minute. But Gent, who had coach Patrick Remy sacked earlier this week, stormed back into the game with two goals in two minutes from Gunther Schepens and Djima Oyawolé, in the 58th and 60th minutes respectively. They held the lead for all of four minutes before Anderlecht levelled, though Aruna Dindane. Nenada Vanic had a great chance to win the game for Gent in the closing seconds but his lob bounced on the crossbar.
Club Brugge KV extended their lead at the top of the Jupiler League with a comfortable 3-1 win over lowly K. Lierse SK. With second-placed KRC Genk being held to a goalless draw by KSC Eendracht Aalst, Brugge open up a four point lead at the top of the table. The home side besieged Lierse's goal form the start, and after creating a host of chances, took the lead in the 38th minute. Sandy Martens fired home at the far post after Lierse failed to clear a Gaëtan Engelbert corner.
But the visitors struck back five minutes after the break when Stijn Huysegems scored a glorious solo effort past Danny Verlinden. The league leaders made sure of the points with two goals in three minutes as first Philippe Clement restored the one- goal advantage with a header in the 65th minute. Rune Lange added the third with a delightful lob over the stranded Cliff Mardulier.
Second-placed Genk's title-challenge was put on hold as they were almost embarrassed by rock-bottom Eendracht. Wesley Sonck came closest to finding a way through Eendracht 's obstinate defence, but his 76th-minute shot smacked against the crossbar.
