PFC CSKA Moskva midfielder Aleksandrs Cauņa has been named Latvian player of the year for a second time.
The 24-year-old holds onto the award – organised by the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) and voted for by coaches, administrators and journalists – he received 12 months ago. Capped 24 times by the Baltic nation, Cauņa is the fourth man after Marians Pahars, Maris Verpakovskis and Kaspars Gorkšs to retain the accolade.
"I'm obviously happy – such recognition always inspires you," said Cauņa, who ends 2012 with his CSKA team two points clear of FC Anji Makhachkala at the top of the Russian Premier-Liga. "This makes you more responsible and focused so your performance level doesn't drop."
