Second-placed KRC Genk drew 1-1 at home with nearest rivals RSC Anderlecht on Wednesday.
Second-placed KRC Genk failed to close the gap on Belgian first division leaders Club Brugge KV after playing out a 1-1 home draw with nearest rivals RSC Anderlecht on Wednesday.
Both sides were missing their top strikers through suspension with Gilles de Bilde absent for the visitors and Wesley Sonck missing for the home team. In a tight opening half neither side created much in the way of chances but on 33 minutes the visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock, only to waste the opportunity after Aruna Dindane's great cross put pressure on the Genk defence.
Genk got their noses in front thanks to a strike from Bernd Thijs four minutes later. His shot from just outside the area took a deflection off one of his own players to end up in the back of the net. The lead, however, was short-lived as Josip Skoko pulled down Anderlecht's Walter Baseggio and the midfield player calmly converted from the spot.
