Monaco maintain two-point lead over PSG

AS Monaco FC responded to Paris Saint-Germain FC's victory at Valenciennes FC with a home win against SC Bastia to remain two points clear at the Ligue 1 summit.

Paris Saint-Germain FC triumphed in one of the day's earlier games but AS Monaco FC responded in kind to remain two points clear at the Ligue 1 summit.

Knowing they needed to win to return to the top of the table Monaco were frustrated by SC Bastia until Emmanuel Rivière notched his sixth goal in as many games in the 39th-minute and Falcao doubled the lead with his sixth strike in seven matches just two minutes later before the Columbian doubled his tally in the dying moments.

Earlier in the evening, PSG had put pressure on the principality side and maintained their unbeaten start to the season thanks to Edinson Cavani's goal in added time at the end of the first half against Valenciennes FC.

Elsewhere, AC Ajaccio claimed their first win of the campaign at home to Olympique Lyonnais, who had top scorer Alexandre Lacazette sent off late on. EA Guingamp were the day's biggest winners, putting five past bottom side FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, while there were home wins and clean sheets for FC Nantes and Toulouse FC. FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Stade de Reims shared a goalless draw in the other game.
