RC Lens of the French second division are through to the Coupe de France quarter-finals after beating five-time winners Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 after extra time at Stade de Gerland.
UEFA Europa League round of 32 contenders Lyon, who most recently lifted the trophy in 2012, went in front after just nine minutes when Jimmy Briand headed in a Miguel Lopes cross from the right at the far post. However, Antoine Kombouaré's team – third in Ligue 2 – drew level in the third minute of stoppage time. Medhi Zeffane was adjudged to have fouled Adamo Coulibaly in the penalty area and former Lyon trainee Pierrick Valdivia converted from the spot.
The turnaround was complete four minutes into extra time, when Jean-Philippe Gbamin nodded in Benjamin Bourigeaud's corner. "For five years I have been dreaming of coming back here, to the club where I grew up," said Valdivia. "I'm here now and I scored – it's like a dream." Lens will visit AS Monaco FC, second in the French top flight, in the quarter-finals.
