Former Romanian international Ilie Dumitrescu has resigned as coach of Cypriot side Alki FC.

Decision announced
Despite efforts from Alki - who gained promotion to the first division last year - to keep Dumitrescu from being lured away by other Cypriot clubs, it has all been to no avail after he announced his decision to leave to the board of the club.

Historic win
Alki gained promotion to the first division last season after being relegated to the lower league several seasons before with the worst record in Europe. Since Dumitrescu's arrival, however, things have changed for the better for the modest club from Larnaca who have enjoyed wins over Olympiakos Nicosia FC and Omonia FC this season.

Apollon rumors
It is said that Apollon Limassol FC are currently leading the chase for Dumitrescu as well as Omonia who recently saw coach Andreas Mouskallis walk out on them.
