Rosenborg complete Norwegian double with cup win

Already crowned Norwegian champions, Rosenborg wrapped up the domestic double thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Sarpsborg in the cup final at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.

Rosenborg are celebrating once again after wrapping up a league and cup double by beating Sarpsborg 2-0 in the Norwegian Cup final.

The Premier Division champions were clear favourites for the decider at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo and dominated for much of the encounter. Indeed, they took a deserved lead on 22 minutes when Pål André Helland prodded the ball in following some fine work on the right wing by Yann-Erik de Lanlay.

Mike Jensen then doubled the Trondheim club's lead five minutes before half-time, finding the corner with an excellent effort from close to the edge of the area. With Sarpsborg unable to recover after the break, Rosenborg put the seal on their tenth cup triumph. Kåre Ingebrigtsen's men will now enter UEFA Champions League qualifying next term, while Strømsgodset, Stabæk and Odd can look forward to the UEFA Europa League preliminaries.

"I won the cup three times as a player, but this triumph is the best – as the newest always is," said Ingebrigtsen. "The match went as expected. Sarpsborg came at us from the start, but we got a grip from about 15 minutes onwards. From then on, we bossed the game. We really deserved this victory."
