Carrion scoring: Most goals in a single top-flight game

Pedro Carrion scored 11 goals in a single game for Europa in Gibraltar on Saturday but, as UEFA.com discovers, he did not quite set a new European record.

Pedro Carrion has set a mark that even Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will struggle to match, scoring 11 in Europa's 16-1 win against Britannia XI in the Gibraltarian Premier League on Saturday.

"I have never scored more than four goals in one match and I've spent all my life playing and scoring goals," the 38-year-old Spaniard said. "My team-mates helped me a lot, creating chance after chance, and I was fortunate that a lot of them found the back of the net. I have always said more goals are scored through perseverance than ability and you have to put yourself in a position to score as many as you can – that is a striker's job."

Incredibly, he is not the first to have hit 11 in a European top flight game, though – as UEFA.com discovers – you have to go back over 100 years to find a striker who could match him.
