Václav Drobný, the Czech Under-21 captain, has signed for the French club RC Strasbourg.
Václav Drobný, the captain of the Czech team that are in Tuesday night's final of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, will play for RC Strasbourg next season after completing a €1m transfer.
The defender is to leave FK Chmel Blšany in his native country after signing a four-year contract with Le Championnat newcomers. The move was initiated by Ivan Hašek, the former coach of AC Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic, who is on the board at Strasbourg.
Drobný joined Chmel in 1999 from Sparta as a trainee. He had been out of action for three months because of an ankle injury and only returned shortly before the U21 championship in Switzerland. The Czech team face France in the final after a remarkable 3-2 victory over the holders Italy on Saturday courtesy of Michal Pospísil's 'golden goal'.
