Austria round-up: Wien open with a win

FK Austria Wien got the new season under way with a 2-0 home win against SV Ried tonight.

Championship hopefuls FK Austria Wien got the new Austrian Bundesliga season under way with a 2-0 home win against SV Ried tonight.

Tirol demoted
With FC Tirol Innsbruck, who won last season's title at a stroll, demoted to the third tier of the Austrian league, the door has been opened for Wien to add to their 22 league titles.

Gilewicz opener
It took the capital club 58 minutes to break down the Ried rearguard but they finally managed it when Polish international Radoslav Gilewicz struck. Midfield player Wolfgang Hopfer completed the scoring in the final minute.
