Ferrando farewell for Atlético

Club Atlético de Madrid have parted company with coach César Ferrando following a disappointing end to the Primera División season.

Poor run
Atlético failed to win in their last eight league fixtures and finished in eleventh position, outside the European qualification places. "The coach has been honest in his work and given his all to get into Europe, as has everyone, but everything depends on results so it is logical that he doesn't continue," said sports director Toni Muñoz.

Initial success
The 45-year-old Ferrando joined Atlético from Albacete Balompié last June on a one-year contract, and was rewarded with an additional 12 months in November after a bright start to the campaign. It is not yet known who will succeed him at the capital club.
