CD Santa Clara coach Manuel Fernandes has left the club by mutual consent after a poor run of form.
Manuel Fernandes has become the first coaching casualty in the Portuguese Super Liga this season after his club CD Santa Clara lost for the fifth consecutive match.
The last straw came after a 3-2 home defeat by CD Nacional, despite taking a two-goal lead. President Paulino Pavão announced that the coach was leaving by "mutual consent" at a news conference this evening. "
He had no luck, but I have to thank him for the positive work he has left here," Pavão said
Assistant in charge
He added that assistant coach Vítor Simas will lead the team until a replacement is found. Manuel Fernandes had been with Santa Clara since 1997/98, aside from a brief period with Sporting Clube de Portugal. He had taken the team to promotion to the top flight and in six years established Santa Clara as a respected club in Portugal.
