Ljungberg lands Swedish honour

Fredrik Ljungberg has won the Golden Ball award for the Swedish Player of the Year.

Arsenal FC and Sweden midfield player Fredrik Ljungberg collected the Golden Ball award for the Swedish Player of the Year at the Cirkus Hall in Stockholm on Monday.

'A great honour'
"It's a great honour to win the biggest prize in Swedish football, a line of fantastic players have won this award before me," Ljungberg said in a live speech on Swedish television channel TV4.

Key player
The 25-year-old was a key player in Arsenal's Premiership and FA Cup double-winning season in 2001/02, scoring a total of 17 goals. He also played in Sweden's opening two games in the FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan but missed the next two through injury.
