CD Santa Clara have hired former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Silva until the end of the season.

CD Santa Clara have hired former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Silva until the end of the season.

Consecutive titles
The Portuguese Super Liga side, who parted company with Manuel Fernandes yesterday, have brought Silva to the Azores for the rest of this season, with an option to take him on for a further season if the two parties can reach a satisfactory agreement. The Brazilian guided FC Porto to consecutive league titles in 1991/92 and 1992/93.

Cup absentee
According to Santa Clara's communications director, Rui Almeida, Silva "will arrive on Thursday or Friday" but will not coach the team for their Portuguese Cup tie against Boavista FC, allowing stand-in coach Vítor Simas to take charge one last time.

Poor start
The deal with the former Guarani FC, SE Palmeiras, Porto, RC Deportivo La Coruña and Brazilian national coach was concluded yesterday night after two other coaching candidates had been ruled out. Santa Clara are bottom of the table with just seven points from their ten games.
