Sporting Clube de Portugal have secured a deal to keep Portuguese international defender Marco Caneira on loan at the José Alvalade for five more years from Valencia CF.

Versatile defender
The 27-year-old player, who appeared 15 times for Sporting last season on loan, will return to the UEFA Champions League contenders but can be recalled at any time by Valencia during his stay in Lisbon. Caneira, who can occupy both central and left-sided positions in defence and was part of Portugal's squad at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, began his career at Sporting with the club's famous youth academy.
