Wil president faces charges

Former FC Wil 1900 president Andreas Hafen faces charges of defrauding the Swiss club.

Former FC Wil 1900 president Andreas Hafen faces charges of allegedly defrauding €32.5m from the Swiss club over the past ten years and €6.7m since 1998.

In custody
The 40-year-old Hafen, a former president of the UBS bank branch in St. Gallen, has been held in custody for over two weeks now. He had been president of the Swiss Nationalliga A side for the past five years.

Club absolved
The affair is threatening to plunge Wil into a financial crisis ahead of the play-off stage of the season. However the Swiss authorities have absolved Wil from any criminal charges, having said that Hafen acted alone and without any accomplices from within the club.
