Everton seal Yobo deal

Nigerian international defender Joseph Yobo has agreed a long-term deal with Everton FC.

Nigerian international Joseph Yobo has agreed to sign a long-term deal with Everton FC once the transfer window reopens in January.

Initial loan
Yobo joined the English Premiership club on loan from Olympique de Marseille in the summer and has made such an impression at Goodison Park that Everton moved last week to seal a €5.5m transfer fee with Marseille for the defender. The Merseysiders have already paid €1.57m for the year's loan.

Five-year deal
The 22-year-old has now finalised personal terms on a five-year contract, which includes this season plus another four years. The deal will be formally ratified when transfer activity resumes on 1 January. An Everton spokesman said: "We don't expect any complications now and have no reason other than to expect Joseph will formally complete the deal when the transfer window opens in January."

Pivotal role
Yobo, who played for Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup in June, was sent off as Everton lost 2-1 at Newcastle United FC on Sunday but had previously played a pivotal role in a six-match winning run which included five successive clean sheets.
