Coly to join Birmingham in new year

Birmingham City FC have signed the Senegal defender Ferdinand Coly on a six-month loan deal.

Birmingham City FC have signed the Senegal international defender Ferdinand Coly on a six-month loan deal which will begin on 1 January 2003.

Option to sign
The English Premiership club will have the option to sign the RC Lens player permanently at the end of the season if they retain their top-flight status. The 29-year-old right-sided defender, who played for Senegal in the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, has played in four UEFA Champions League games this season.

Coly joins Cissé
Coly joins his international team-mate Aliou Cissé at St Andrews after the midfielder played an important part in persuading his fellow countryman to move England.
