Tottenham Hotspur FC remain in touch with the leaders after a 3-1 win against West Bromwich Albion FC.
Tottenham Hotspur FC end the weekend seventh in the English Premiership after securing a 3-1 win against struggling West Bromwich Albion FC.
Visitors West Brom gave Tottenham a hard game but always had a tough task when Christian Ziege's second-minute free-kick put the home team ahead. Tottenham goalkeeper Kasey Keller then had to make a number of saves, including from Lee Hughes and Jason Koumas before Robbie Keane doubled the lead on the half-hour after latching on to Ziege's through-ball.
Poyet seals win
West Brom continued to press and they finally made their pressure count 19 minutes from the end when Scott Dobie shot in from 25 metres. But Gustavo Poyet ensured victory for Tottenham on 79 minutes, applying the finish in a goalmouth scramble.
'It was tough'
After the game, Keane admitted that Tottenham had been fortunate to win by a two-goal margin, saying: "We did not play very well - but it was tough. Take nothing away from West Brom - they worked hard, but the scrappy goal at the end probably flattered us."
Monday night game
The result keeps West Brom in 17th, a point ahead of the three-team relegation zone, which they would fall into if Sunderland AFC avoid defeat against Manchester City FC on Monday night.
