Parma AC coach Cesare Prandelli has signed a contract extension keeping him at the Serie A club until summer 2004.
Prandelli, previously at Hellas-Verona FC, took over at Parma in the close season from Gedeone Carmignani, who himself had been the third club coach of 2001/02 after Renzo Ulivieri and Daniel Passarella. Not surprisingly, it was a season in which the team struggled against relegation, although they did win the Coppa Italia.
Seventh despite selling
Under Prandelli and general manager Arrigo Sacchi, Parma's young side have exited the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup, but have risen to seventh in Serie A, despite having continued to sell key players, including Marco Di Viao.
According to the club's official website: "Parma AC are happy to announce that an agreement with coach Cesare Prandelli has been reached in order to continue this important collaboration in the 2003/04 season. Both the club and the coach believe in the 'Parma project'. Our common target is to improve our results, while reducing costs at the same time."
