Zaragoza reel from Cuartero blow

Real Zaragoza's hopes of sustaining a strong start to the Spanish season have been dealt a blow after captain Luis Carlos Cuartero was ruled out for six months.

Real Zaragoza captain Luis Carlos Cuartero is facing a six-month spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury.

Long lay-off
The 31-year-old twisted his left knee at the end of a training session on Tuesday and a scan confirmed he has torn the cruciate ligament. Cuartero will undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action until the new year. The loss of the defensive linchpin comes as a huge blow to Zaragoza who sit seventh in the Primera División, three points adrift of second-placed Valencia CF.
