Hero Nurmela extends HJK stay

A UEFA EURO 2008™ hero for Finland in midweek, veteran winger Mika Nurmela has committed his future to HJK Helsinki by signing a new one-year contract.
A day after scoring the winner for Finland in Wednesday's UEFA EURO 2008™ Group A qualifying match against Armenia, winger Mika Nurmela has signed a one-year extension to his deal with Finnish Veikkausliiga outfit HJK Helsinki.

Easy decision
The 34-year-old, who helped HJK to second place in the 2006 Veikkausliiga with a series of impressive performances, was due to become out of contract and had attracted interest from various clubs. However, for Nurmela, the decision to stay another season at HJK was easy. "If I play in Finland, I will play for HJK - there is no other option," said the former SC Heerenveen, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Heracles Almelo man.
