Levante call time on López Caro

Levante UD have sacked coach Juan Ramón López Caro and are set to name former Spain goalkeeper Abel Resino as his successor.

Change of leadership
The Spanish club's president Julio Romero and board of directors held a general meeting this morning before taking the decision to part with the 43-year-old López Caro. The move came on the back of a 3-0 defeat at local rivals Valencia CF on Saturday which left the east-coast side 17th in the 20-team table, with 18 points from 18 games. Levante are now expected to turn to the ex-Club Atlético de Madrid keeper Abel, for whom this will be a top-flight coaching debut. The 46-year-old has previously coached at Atlético before taking the reins at second division CF Ciudad de Murcia.

Short stay
López Caro had only joined Levante in July, after a month-long stay at the Real Racing Club Santander helm that saw no competitive action. He finished last season in charge of Real Madrid CF. He led the capital club in 24 league matches, winning 12 and drawing nine, as they came second although he could not overhaul champions FC Barcelona. He had spent five years as a coach with the Merengues but that was his first senior appointment.
