Argentina striker Javier Saviola steered FC Barcelona into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey by scoring all three goals in a 3-2 victory against Deportivo Alavés at Camp Nou on Tuesday.
The win sent the Spanish champions through 5-2 on aggregate but an otherwise unconvincing performance will have done little to allay fears that the Catalans have gone off the boil after winning just one of their last five league matches. Saviola, who also scored both goals in last week's first leg, strengthened his case for a regular starting place with another fine individual display.

He helped himself to two goals inside the first 21 minutes and then scored his third 18 minutes into the second half after Alavés had fought back to level at 2-2 on the night. The majority of the remaining ties will be played on Wednesday, while Real Madrid CF are at home to struggling Real Betis Balompié on Thursday after the two sides fought out a 0-0 first-leg draw.
