Maltese Premier League leaders Sliema Wanderers FC have signed Kris Laferla from rivals Valletta FC.

Many honours
The 35-year-old was captain at Valletta and had been with the club since the age of 18. Laferla, who has been capped 65 times for Malta most recently in 1995, has won 20 domestic honours, including six league titles. In 2001/02, the midfield player led Valletta to an unprecedented haul of six trophies, including the coveted Centenary Cup.

High hopes
"I am so sad that my days with Valletta are over," Laferla said. "Honestly, I never thought of this day. This will be a new experience for me. Sliema have been after the league title for a number of years now, so I am determined to contribute in their bid to finish on top this season."
