Galatasaray SK coach Erik Gerets has been given a one-year contract extension ahead of his side's Turkish Cup quarter-final against Kayseri Erciyesspor.
Galatasaray SK have taken up the option to extend coach Erik Gerets's contract by one year.
The former Belgian international led Galatasaray to the title in his first season after joining in summer 2005, yet came under criticism following the Istanbul club's early exit from European competition in December. Galatasaray also trail Turkish leaders Fenerbahçe SK by six points, but the board has decided to act in a show of support for the 52-year-old.
Gerets, who had coached in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany before landing at Galatasaray, will have the chance to repay that faith tonight when his side take on Kayseri Erciyesspor in the home leg of their Turkish Cup quarter-final, looking to build on a goalless away draw. The real test, though, comes on Saturday away to Beşiktaş JK.
