Senna setback for Villarreal

Villarreal CF will be without Marcos Senna for the rest of the season after he underwent knee ligament surgery.

Viillarreal CF will be without Brazilian midfield player Marcos Senna for the rest of the season after it was confirmed today that he had suffered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

'A serious injury'
The 26-year-old, who joined Villarreal last summer from AD São Caetano in Brazil, was due to undergo surgery this afternoon and is not expected back in action for six months. Fernando Arnau, the Villarreal doctor, said: "The tests we have done have confirmed that it is a serious injury which needs surgery."

Relegation threat
The injury occurred yesterday during Villarreal's 2-1 defeat by Real Betis Balompié. "I turned badly, the physio looked at it and although I tried carrying on, they had to substitute me," said the former SC Corinthians Paulista player. The defeat in Seville left Benito Floro's side 14th in the Primera División, just two points above the relegation zone.
