IFK Göteborg central defender Fredrik Risp has moved to Serie A to play for AC Chievo Verona.
The 22-year-old was one of the few bright spots in Göteborg's disappointing Allsvenskan season and was being monitored by a number of Europe's leading clubs. Risp has agreed a five-month loan contract with Chievo holding the option to buy the player outright.
"This is a great footballing challenge for me, and
I can't miss this chance," said Risp, who will fly to Italy today to undergo a medical before meeting his new team-mates, including Swedish international Daniel Andersson.
Göteborg will not have to look far to find a replacement for Risp, director of sports Roger Gustafsson saying: "We've got at least four other central defenders who we believe in, and this is such an opportunity for Fredrik that we don't want to stand in his way. We'll get good compensation, and that is, of course, also a factor."
