Alavés turn to Tomic

AS Roma's Yugoslavian midfield player Ivan Tomic has rejoined Deportivo Alavés on loan.

AS Roma's Yugoslavian midfield player Ivan Tomic has rejoined Deportivo Alavés on loan for the rest of the season.

Limited opportunities
Tomic returns for a second loan spell at the Primera División club after a frustrating campaign in the Italian capital. The 27-year-old made only three Serie A appearances for Fabio Capello's side and featured once in the UEFA Champions League.

Emergency signing
Alavés coach José María Esnal 'Mané' has signed the Belgrade-born player to fill the gap left by injuries to midfielders Hermes Aldo Desio, Martín Astudillo and Pablo Gómez. Tomic played 28 times for Alavés during a successful first term at the Mendizorroza stadium in 2000/01, when the Vitoria-based team reached the final of the UEFA Cup.

Squad system
Tomic moved to Roma from his hometown club, FK Partizan, in 1998 but has never been more than a squad player at the Olimpico stadium.
