AEK Athens FC have agreed a four-year contract extension with coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer and have started signing players for the new season.
Appointed last summer, the 54-year-old Spanish coach led AEK to runners-up spot in the Greek Super League this season, earning them a place in the third qualifying round of next season's UEFA Champions League. Serra Ferrer had success in this season's competition, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in the group stage almost earning the Athenian side a place in the first knockout round. They moved into the UEFA Cup Round of 32 but were knocked out over two legs by Paris Saint-Germain FC.
AEK have begun planning for the new season, signing 25-year-old defender Tamandani Nsaliwa from Super League rivals Panionios NFC. The Malawi-born Canadian international has signed a three-year contract with the club. The club have also brought in Brazilian defender Edson on a free transfer, with the 20-year-old committing to a five-year contract. Meanwhile, the club have released 30-year-old goalkeeper Dionysios Hiotis and 25-year-old defender Evangelos Moras. AEK head to the United States on Friday to play a friendly game against SL Benfica at New Jersey's Giants Stadium on Sunday.
