VfL Bochum 1848 have signed Slovakia striker Stanislav Šesták from MŠK Zilina as a replacement for Theofanis Gekas who has joined rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Prolific form
The 24-year-old, who scored 15 goals in 27 league appearances as Žilina won the title this season, has been given a four-year-contract at Bochum with the transfer fee reported to be €750,000. Šesták, who has been capped nine times by his country, is in the Slovakia squad to face Group D leaders Germany in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying next Wednesday. Slovakia are fourth in Group D, four points behind Germany having played a game more. Greece striker Gekas scored 20 goals in the 2006/07 campaign and was coveted by a host of clubs before Leverkusen swooped.
